San Francisco, CA - Merola Opera Program Cancels 2020 Training Program and Summer Festival

Merola Opera Program has announced, for the first time in its 63 year history, the cancellation of its summer training program and Summer Festival, including all public performances, public master classes, and events scheduled to take place July 9 to August 22, 2020, in accordance with local and global efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

Merola Launches Merola Artists Emergency Fund

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – To help its alumni who have suffered financial hardships brought on by COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the Merola Opera Program has launched the Merola Artists Emergency Fund. Available to Merola participants from the past five years (2015-2019), the fund is intended to assist young opera singers, conductors, and directors who are in the early stages of establishing their careers, and may be hardest hit by canceled performances in recent and coming months.

The 2019 Merola Summer Festival announces this year’s 29 Merola artists, selected from more than 800 international applicants from as far away as Brazil, South Korea, New Zealand, and Colombia, as well as across the U.S.

Merola Opera Program Announces Director, Conductor, and Lead Sponsors of the Organization's first-ever Commission "IF I WERE YOU"

SAN FRANCISCO, CA  – In 2019, San Francisco’s acclaimed Merola Opera Program will present the first opera commissioned in the Program’s history, the world premiere of If I Were You, by distinguished American composer Jake Heggie and noted librettist Gene Scheer. This ground-breaking work will be presented August 1 – 6, 2019, at San Francisco’s Herbst Theatre. Today it was announced the opera will be conducted by Nicole Paiement and directed by Keturah Stickann.
