In my first foreign professional engagement (in Brazil) I was told I’d be able to work and live at the place by speaking English and Spanish, but that was not the case when I arrived and I had to lead a 70+ people group, so I had to learn Portuguese in less than 3 weeks; being lefthanded has always been a struggle with pencil and ink over your hand, so I learned how to write upside down. It almost looks better that when I do it normally; I enjoy putting challenging projects together, so I have recruited orchestras for different concerts and I curated a music festival that will be programmed at least this and next year at the University of Michigan.

From the ages of 4 till 15 I lived in Osoyoos, BC, Canada, with a population of about 6 000 people, where my family farmed an orchard. Also, a Canadian opera, Filumena by John Estacio, was written about my great-grandmother’s bootlegger cousin who was hanged at 22 years old! I have been performing since the age of 5, particularly with Missoula Children’s Theater which traveled to Osoyoos every year, as well as participating in the Kiwanis Music Festivals—I have always known I love to perform and now being able to do that on a larger scale is pretty amazing!
